Johnny Roland Brown

JOHNNY ROLAND BROWN, age 73, died at his home in Pamplico on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 after an illness. Roland was originally from Sycamore, SC. After graduating from Allendale-Fairfax High School, he received a track scholarship from the University of South Carolina, where he was a pole-vaulter. He broke the school record – clearing 13’6”, and ended his career with a height of 14’8”. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from USC, and later a Masters Degree from Francis Marion University. His first teaching/coaching position was at Saluda High School, followed by Palmetto High School in Williamston, SC. He ended his 30 year career when he retired from Hannah-Pamplico. Roland served his country in the US Army after he was drafted in 1971. He served most of his time at the Valley Forge General Hospital in Phoenixville, PA and received an honorable discharge in January 1976. Prior to his illness, he was an avid fisherman, spending much of his time with friends on the waters of Santee, Georgetown, Wateree and the Pee Dee Rivers. Roland is survived by his wife, Diane K. Brown, daughters; Stephanie (Merio) Cagle and Bridgette (Darrin) McIntyre. He will be greatly missed by his four grandsons of whom he was very proud; Reagan, Patterson, Ashton and Bryce. He was predeceased by an infant son, Johnny Treg Brown. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 19, 2017 in the Mt.
