Homer James Nettles

Homer James Nettles, 79, of Effingham, SC passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Nettles was born in Williamsburg County, SC, a son of the late Zingle Lee Nettles and Annie L. Matthews Nettles.He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and was a retired timber cruiser with Charles Ingram Lumber Company. Mr. Nettles is survived by sons, Howard James Nettles (Tim Strickland) of Darlington, SC; Chad O'Brian Nettles (Subrina) of Effingham, SC; and daughter, Wanda Carlson of Effingham, SC; grandchildren, Jacyn Palmer, Adam Nettles, Luke Nettles, Leah Nettles, and Kristin Brown; great-grandchildren, Aydin Palmer, Ava Palmer and Porter Owens; brothers, Curley Nettles and Veron Nettles, both of Effingham, SC, Raydine Nettles of Johnsonville, SC and Elton Nettles of Friendfield, SC; and sisters, Ivanell Lawhon of Florence and Annie Hanna of Lake City, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Watford Nettles; and his sister, Connie Godwin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church, Effingham, SC.Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Church.
