Willie “Bill” Alton Summerford, 89, of Florence, SC, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, February 26, 2017. Mr. Summerford was born in Clio, SC, a son of the late Wally Randolph Summerford and Lula Summerford.He was a farmer and a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War as a paratrooper with the 187th Airborne.Mr. Summerford was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church Men’s Club.He was the last survivor of eight children. Surviving are his wife, Lois Jackson Summerford; daughters, Cheryl (Earl) Rochester of Toccoa, GA, Kay (Jimmy) McSwain and Christy (Jay) Schimek, both of Florence, SC;grandchildren, Caroline (Chip) McFarlin, Paige (Jesse) Ausec, Ty Schimek and Morgan Schimek and great-grandchildren, Brady McFarlin and Cayman McFarlin. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Pisgah United Methodist Church.Burial will follow at the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
