WILLIAM MCLAIN "GOV" GORE Coward, S.C. William McLain "Gov" Gore, 79, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Mr. Gore was born in Nashville, TN, a son of the late Julius Bennett and Louise McLain Gore. He was a graduate of McLenaghan High School, and had attended USC. He had retired from Stone Container Corporation. Mr. Gore had served in the US Air Force from 1953 until 1957, stationed in San Antonio, Biloxi, MS, Japan and Rye Beach, NH. Mr. Gore was a Charter member of the Mecca Lodge, a member of the York Rite Bodies and the Omar Shrine. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Florence. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Anchorage, AK, where he was a charter member of the Iditarod Historic Trail Alliance and a member of the Eagle River Lions Club. He was a volunteer for the Iditarod Dog Sled Race in Nome and Anchorage, and also volunteered at the Anchorage Zoo. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gore was preceded in death by his brother, Julius B. Gore, Jr. Surviving are his wife, Lena Arlene Cottingham Gore of Coward; Son, William Bradley Gore of Chugiak, AK; daughter, Lisa Arlene Gore of Chugiak, AK, and a sister, Martha Elaine Gore Vest of West Liberty, KY. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 25, 2012 in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
