William R. "Bill" Griffith

William Remus “Bill” Griffith, Sr., 90, of Florence, SC, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Mr. Griffith was born in Williamston, SC, a son of the late Henry Anderson Griffith, Sr. and Mae Gaillard Griffith.He was a veteran of the US Army and, as a member of the Greatest Generation, he served during World War II.He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and liberation of German Concentration Camps.Mr. Griffith retired in 1981 as a Lieutenant with the South Carolina Highway Patrol after 34 years of service.From 1981 through 1989, he was President of South Strand Associates Real Estate and Insurance at Garden City Beach.Mr. Griffith was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, a member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion and was a Mason. Surviving are his wife, Julia Willis Griffith; sons, Billy (Cheryl) Griffith of Willamston, SC and Carl (Maria) Griffith, Sr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Carl Griffith, Jr., Jared Griffith, James Griffith, Charles Griffith and Alexander Griffith; and great-grandchild, Abel Griffith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016, at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will follow at Florence National Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
