William "Bill" Gause Porter

William “Bill” Gause Porter, Jr., 88, of Florence, SC, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015. Mr. Porter was born in Marion, SC, a son of the late William Gause Porter and Edna Mae Rogers Porter. He was employed with Merita Bakery for twenty years and retired from La-Z-Boy Manufacturing after twenty years.He worked with Piggly Wiggly from January 1990 to 2000.Mr.Porter was a member of Tranquil Methodist Church from 1968 to 2006 where he was a lay speaker and a Deacon.From 2006 to the present, he was a member of West Florence Baptist Church. He was well known for his wood work and devotion to the church and his family.He was known as a “Jack of all trades”. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Stewart Porter; his brothers, Robert L. Porter, Elliott H. Porter Jimmy Porter and Herman Porter; one sister, Mary F. Lambert and grandchild, William Owen Middleton, Surviving are his daughter, Rita Faye Porter of Florence; brother, Jackie C. Porter of Florence; sister, Sarah Gladys Grant of Laurinburg, NC; three special God-children, Paulette Purvis, Claudette Milligan and Matthew Milligan; special nephew, Dale (Brenda) Lambert of Hartsville and special close family friends, Tina Anderson and Ryan Hart, both of Darlington, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.A private Entombment service will be held. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West Florence Baptist Church, 3354 Hoffmeyer Road, Florence, SC 29501.
