William (Bill) Doulaveris, 89, of Florence, died peacefully at the McLeod Hospice House on Friday, February 25, 2015, surrounded by family. The funeral service will be held at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Florence at 3:00pm on Saturday, February 28, 2015.Interment will follow in the Florence Memorial Gardens. William was a devoted husband to Katherine Kanos Doulaveris for sixty-six years; the loving father of three children: Steven (Helen) Doulaveris of Florence, Kiki (Raymond) Soletic of NY, Mary (William) Metaxas of MA.William is also survived by his eldest brother Dionisios Doulaveris of Greece; eight grandchildren: Renee (Constantine) Perivolaris of Florence; William (Tiffany) Doulaveris of Florence; Rodanthe (Spero) Koufaliotis of Charlotte, NC; Luke, Katherine and Hillary Soletic of NY; Katherine Metaxas of NY and William Metaxas of MA; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. William was born in Evrytania, Greece on August 6, 1925.He married Katherine Kanos in 1949.In 1956, they left their war torn country and immigrated to the United States in pursuit of the American Dream and a better life for his young family.They resided in New York for 30 years where he was a restauranteur and a longtime member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Flushing, NY. Upon retiring in 1986, they relocated to Florence.In Florence, William spent his time working alongside his son Steven in their businesses, Venus Restaurant in Florence and Steve’s One Stop in Darlington, SC.He was also an active member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church for nearly thirty years and was honored as Godfather at its consecration in 1991.William worked tirelessly at the annual Greek Festivals at the church.William was also a lifelong member of the Velouchi Philanthropic Organization.
