Walter "Paul" Heger, Sr., 80, of Florence passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2019.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Abundant Life Church in Florence.The family will receive visitors at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.Entombment will follow the service at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. He was born in Randolph, Massachusetts on May 13, 1939, one of eighteen siblings born to the late Charles E. Heger, Jr. and Grace Osborne Heger. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960, after being stationed in Pensacola, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina. He began his career with Terminix Services, International in 1962.He worked for the company for 42 years, and rose to the position of Regional Manager before retiring in 2004.He was a co-founder of the Pee Dee Pest Control Association, a member of the Jaycees and Knights of Columbus, and a former constable. He loved his family, motorcycles, and the South Carolina Gamecocks.He was part owner in a dirt track race car (#88) that rode the local racing circuit in the 1980's. He was an elder at Abundant Life Church.He had a passion for mission work and visited the people of Nicaragua several times.He also participated in the Omega Harvest Drama Ministries. He will be missed by his family: his wife of 37 years Karen Windham Heger; his 5 children, Tony (Heather) Heger of Florence, Lindsey (Stan) Overby of Greenville, S.C., Kim Heger of Florence, Leigh (Terry) McLean of Pinehurst, N.C., and Paul Heger, Jr. of Florence; his eight beloved grandchildren, Dylan and Peyton Heger, Cameron and Allison Overby, Madison and Grant Perry, and Hunter and Britton Heger; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
