Virginia Whitfield Harbin January 7, 1923 – January 13, 2014 Genny Harbin passed away peacefully at McLeod Hospice House on Monday, 6 days following her 91st birthday after an illness. Known as “Ms Genny” she had resided in Florence for over 60 years where she and her late husband Charlie Harbin owned Charlies Open Air Superette, Harbins Odds and Ends, and Charlies Christmas Tree Lot.She raised her 3 boys on Heatherwood Cr. and resided for the last 40 years in the Timrod Park area, spending her last 2 ½ years at Heritage Home. She was pre-deceased by parents H.K. and Mary Whitfield, a brother Joe, and sisters Ruzie (Brock), Eunice (Webb) and Lee (Vaughn). Surviving sisters Zelma Dodgens, Nell (F.O.) Bailey, Mary Ruth (Bo) Evans, Betty (Ben) Baker and brothers Billy (Minnie), Johnny (Gail), Larry (Dot), Wade (Nancy) all of Anderson, SC. She leaves behind 3 sons Doug (Sherry) of Mt. Pleasant, Ken (Carolyn) of Surfside Beach & Steve (Janet) of St. Petersburg, FL, 8 grand and 6 great grandchildren, along with a host of “adopted” daughters and grands. Services will be conducted by Stoudenmire-Dowling with the service taking place at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Immanuel Baptist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Mt Hope Cemetery. Donations to McLeod Hospice House, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, 29502 are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
