Virginia Evans Powell

Virginia Evans Powell, age 90, of Florence, SC, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

She was born in Florence, SC, the daughter of the late Ozzie Evans and Linnie Matthews Evans. She was a generous Christian woman who loved helping others and reading her bible. Mrs. Powell loved her family, working in her yard, and she was a giver. She was also a talented cook.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Powell; brothers; Rafton and Richard Evans; sister, Hazel Daniels; son David “Shorty” Powell.

Surviving are her daughter, Peggy (Jay) Carlson; son, Jimmy Ray (Evelyn) Powell, all of Florence; grandchildren; Dustin Reginald Hill, Chad Allen Powell, Joey Allen Powell, and Lisa Marie Kelly Cole; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Private Graveside Service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 in the Matthews Cemetery in Coward, SC.
