Vencil Stanley Jelovchan, 69, of Florence, SC, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. Mr. Jelovchan was born in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Vencil S. Jelovchan, Sr. and Regina Kozusko. Mr. Jelovchan played professional baseball for the New York Yankees minor league from 1965 -1967. Following his baseball career, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served with honor until his retirement as a Lt. Col. in 1992.Mr. Jelovchan also had a successful and lifelong career in engineering.Mr. Jelovchan was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and an area representative for Worldwide Marriage Encounter.He was an exceptional ballroom dance instructor and a member of the Palmetto Ballroom Dance Club.Mr. Jelovchan enjoyed woodworking and was an avid runner. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Brown Jelovchan; daughter, Tammi Marie (Brant) Hellwig of Lexington, VA; grandchildren, Emily and Molly; sister, Charlotte (Charles) Dorn, and nephew, Scott (Audrey) Dorn. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
