Valerie Hanna Atkinson

Valerie Hanna Atkinson, 87, of Florence, SC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 24, 2014, at her home after an illness. Mrs. Atkinson was born in Hanna, SC, a daughter of the late William Hanna and Marian Flowers Hanna.She retired from Sears after thirty-nine and half years of service.She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur L. Atkinson; a daughter, Valerie Rose Atkinson; two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are her daughters, Alice (Willie) Roberts and Dale Gray, both of Florence; her grandchildren, Allison (Jeffrey) Shennan of Greer and Paige (Jason) Wilkes-McGee of Florence; her great-grandchildren, Hunter Wilkes, Cameron McGee, Jessica and Ashley Shennan; and her sister, Jackie Carter of Fredericksburg, VA; andher best friend of seventy years, Grace Creel. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the home of Willie and Alice Roberts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Youth Fund, 1011 Parker Drive, Florence, SC 29501.
