Tommy Jane Gauntt

Tommy Jane Gauntt, 90, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

She was born in Marion, SC, the daughter of the late Thomas Sweatt and Vera Hayes Sweatt. She attended First Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Gauntt dedicated many years to Florence School District 1 working in food services. She was a volunteer at Mcleod for 20 years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband George T. Gauntt; brothers, Bill Sweatt, Lewis Sweatt, Donald Sweatt and Sam Sweatt; and sisters, Hazel Martin, Ruby Hayes, Patricia Mitcham, Vivian Moore, Dorothy Medlin and Nellie Caulder.

Surviving are her son, George “Ted” (Rebecca A.) Gauntt Jr.; daughters, Julie B. (Michael “Grey”) Seymour and Faith (Jeff) Woodard; brother, Elbert “Peewee” Sweatt; sister, Helen Atkerson; grandchildren, Tiffney, Megan and Preston; 6 great-grandchildren; special niece, Deborah Brown; and her grand dog Lilly Jane.

The family would like to thank the staff at McLeod Hospice House for the exceptional care Mrs. Gauntt received.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home

Funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Florence National Cemetery, at 2:00 PM.
