Thomas Gibson Seigler

Thomas Gibson Seigler, 80, of Florence, went to Heaven on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House.He was born in Augusta, GA, December 12, 1933, and was the son of the late Paul Heyman Seigler and Louise Sizemore Seigler. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a lifelong Gamecock fan.He earned his commission in the US Air Force and faithfully served his country in the US Air Force for nine years in the United States, Germany, and Turkey. He worked as a counselor for SC Vocational Rehabilitation and as a personnel manager for PDRTA. He was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he sang in the Celebration Choir and in Grace Notes and was a member of the John Dawson Sunday School Class. He had previously taught a Sunday School class there and had been Co-Director of the Senior Ministry with his wife for five years. He was a former member of the Florence Jaycees and had served as Chaplain.He also was a former member of the Palmetto Civitan Club and had served as President of that organization as well as Deputy Governor of South Carolina.He was a past President of the Florence East Camp Gideons and was a current member of the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army. Surviving are his loving wife of forty-three years, Wilberta Hancock Seigler; his sons, Bob (Sheryl) Seigler of Hendersonville, NC, and Ron Seigler of Florence; his daughter, Kim (Dale) Turbeville of Florence; his four granddaughters, Christi Seigler, Jackie Seigler, Stephanie (David) Hunter, all of Florence, and Leisl Seigler, of Hendersonville, NC; his grandson, Matthew Turbeville, of Florence; five great-grandchildren; four nephews, Paul (Sharon) Seigler, Rocke (LaNette) Crowe, Roger (Kathy Ann) Crowe, and Tim Sessions; four nieces, Betty (Buel) Hunt, Nellise Johnson, Gale (Robert) Agee, and Rebecca (John) Dutton; and three special nieces-in-law, Gwen Wallace, Dianne (Rodney) Chandler, both of Florence, and Johnnie Faye (Roger) Nesbitt of Lynchburg, SC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Seigler was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul H. Seigler, Jr., Morris Seigler, and Earl Seigler, and his sisters, Elizabeth Sessions and Margie Crowe. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
