A funeral service celebrating the life of Thomas Clifton Camak will be held 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC. Family will greet friends from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Church.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
Mr. Camak was born in Winnsboro, SC, a son of the late Thomas Clifton and Laura Alice Camak. He was a graduate of Dreher High School in Columbia and the University of South Carolina where he ran track. He was a member of the S. C. Air National Guard and served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After service, he was employed for nine years as a Casualty Superintendent with U.S. F & G Insurance Company in Columbia. He retired after twenty-five years as a sale representative for Lever Brothers Company. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, teacher and on various committees. He led the music for lay renewals in the Churches in the Southeast. He will be remembered for his singing, starting in high school, Little Theatre and church and civic organizations. His recording “What About You” is heard on the Sunday School Hour every Sunday morning on the radio. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed metal detecting and making wood carvings.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mary Helen Gillmore Camak; children, Laura Lyle McKay (Will), Michael Boyd Camak, Susan Elizabeth Carter (Tim), and Rebecca Alice Rollins (Raymond); grandchildren, Heather McKay Willis (Ray, Brooke McKay Benatzky (Carlos), Michael Windham Camak (Ashley), Thomas Gillmore Camak (Linda), Matthew Boyd Camak (Kelsi), Mary Carter McElveen(Aubrey), Amy Carter Blontz (Chad), Timothy Allen Carter, Andrew Raymond Rollins (Katelynn), Daniel Clifton Rollins and Rachel Alice Rollins; great-grandchildren, Madison Lyle Willis, Joseph North Willis, Jaxon McKay Willis, Miller Rean Willis, Willow Francesca Benatzky, Eric Bjorn Camak, Ella Gray Camak, Michael Woods Camak, Kylie Lynn Camak, Keller Boyd Camak, Cora LeeAnn Camak and Margot Goldie Rollins; and nephews, Howard Lee Smith and Thomas Benjamin Smith.
He is preceded in death by his parents and only brother, John Dixon Camak of Raleigh, NC.
