Teresa Jones Thigpen, 89, of Florence, SC, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026.
Mrs. Thigpen was the widow of Robert C. “Bobby” Thigpen Jr., who predeceased her on September 3, 2018, after being married for 62 years.
Teresa was born on January 6, 1937, in the Ashwood Community of Lee County. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lester Jones and Leah Edward Evans Jones, and she graduated from Mayesville High School.
She was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Teresa was also a member of the Clarendon County Genealogy Society. She spent most of her adult life in Florence, South Carolina.
Teresa had a love for sewing and spent many years making garments for others. She also made numerous hats for cancer patients, generously donating them to local hospitals and to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Helping others brought her great joy, and her kindness touched many lives.
Surviving are her children, Robby Thigpen, Jeffrey Thigpen (Peggy) of Nichols, and Kristal Jones of Florence; granddaughter, Victoria Galloway of Charleston; two great grandchildren, Anothony Michael Powell and Alaina Maire Davenport; sisters, Margaret Jones Harris of Augusta and Naomi Jones Deas Elmore of Camden; sister in law, Mildred Jones of Americus, GA.; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Teresa is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Scarlet Ruby Jones; four brothers, Eugene N. Jones, Robert E. “Peanut” Jones, Harold Henley “Monkey” Jones, and Calvin Jones; sister in laws, Ima Lee Jones, Doris Jones, and Thelma Jones; brothers in law, Charles “Chuck” Harris, J.B. Deas, and Alford Elmore.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the Amedisys Staff, Melissa, Taylor, Brooke, and April and a special thanks to her friends, Nancy Yarborough, Ellen Guffy, and Terry Gregory.
The family will receive friends and family Monday, March 9, 2026, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
