Stephen D. Boylan, 81, died Sunday, February 28, 2016. He was born September 26, 1934 in Queens, NY, a son of the late Justin and Cecelia Lahey Boylan. Stephen was a mechanical engineer with a degree from Newark College of Engineering. He was a supervisor at Union Carbide and later ESAB for over 38 years. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a US Army veteran and a member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife, Ann P. Boylan of Florence; a son, Greg (Sharon) Boylan of Pompton Plains, NJ; a daughter, Laura Schumacher of Cincinnati, OH; a brother, Edward (Ann) Boylan of Portland, OR; grandchildren Anthony Rich, Olivia, Emily, and Shaun Boylan, Jacqueline, Stephen, and Jeffrey Mahedy, William Schumacher, III, Katie Klingensmith, and Jake Schumacher; and a great grandchild, Isaiah Klingensmith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Anthony, and Justin Boylan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 4, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence, with a Rosary Service at 6:30 and Vigil at 7:00.
