Starr Powell

Starr Powell, 43, of Effingham, SC, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

She was born in Darlington, SC, the daughter of Gary Amerson and Lynn Sauls Amerson. Mrs. Powell was an outgoing woman, who was known as everyone’s aunt. She dedicated 20 years to work at Assurant as a Senior Research Specialist. She enjoyed bowling, singing and going to the water.

She is survived by her beloved husband, of 13 years, Jack William Powell; son, Declan Powell; daughter, McKenna Powell; parents, Gary Amerson and Lynn Sauls Amerson; brother, Ryan Amerson; sisters, Tabitha (Robert) Durant and Dawn (Julia) Pugh; maternal grandparents, Shirley and Johnny Altman; many nieces, nephews and extended family; and her fur baby Lou Lou.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
