SIDNEY M. ANDERSON SWANSEA, SC SIDNEY M. ANDERSON, SR., 83, of Swansea, formerly of Florence, died Thursday, September 23, 2010 in a Columbia health care facility after an illness. Mr. Anderson was born in Florence, SC a son of the late Darby and Lena Mae Stanley Anderson.He was a US Navy veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.He was a lifetime member of the Amity Lodge, a member of the York Rite, a member of the Omar Temple, a member Provost Guard and Past Director and Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus and a member of the American Legion.He was a former employee of the railroad, had been a member of the Florence Police Department for 15 years and retired from the Florence County Sheriff’s Department after 15 ½ years. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Sidney M. Anderson, Jr., who died in October 2008; step-mother, Lillian Ham Anderson and a sister, Sarah A. Upton. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Brigman Anderson of Florence; son, Darby A. "Sandy" (Jackie) Anderson of Swansea, SC; daughter, Betty Louise Harmon of Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Alexander Anderson, Margaret Anderson, Johnny Harmon and Jimmy Harmon and son-in-law, Doug Harmon of Summerville, SC. Memorials may be made to the Omar Shrine Children’s Hospital, 176 Patriot’s Point, Mt. Pleasant, SC29464. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 - 3 PM Sunday in the Collins Family Life Center at Calvary Baptist Church.
