Shelby Jean “Doodle” Frye James, 76 of Darlington passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Mullins, SC a daughter of the late Mitchell and Virgie Vaught Frye. She attended Aynor High School and was a graduate of Florence Academy of Beauty. She was employed for several years as a licensed Cosmetologist and then later was employed by Nytronics of Darlington. She attended Indian Branch United Methodist Church in Darlington. She enjoyed fishing, working in her flowers, sewing, listening to Bluegrass music, writing short stories and poetry, but mostly spending time with her family. Mrs. James is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bobby H. James; son, Timothy D. Frye of Myrtle Beach; 3 daughters, Rhonda (Andy) Calcutt of Efffingham, Rita (Mark) Whittington and Stacey (Danny) Howle both of Darlington; 4 grandchildren, Lori (Tim) Butler of Alliance, OH, Sarah L. Howle of Rock Hill, Gabriel J.L. Howle and Kathryn G. Howleboth of Darlington. 3 great-grandchildren, Linsey, Alison and Arabella Butler of Alliance, OH; special “brother”, William “Buddy” Rogers and special “sister”, Dottie Rogers of Darlington. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Indian Branch United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm in Zion Cemetery in Galivants Ferry, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Friday at the Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of her daughter, 105 Thompson Drive, Darlington.
