Sarah “Snookie” James Anderson, 81, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House. Mrs. Anderson was born in Florence, SC, a daughter of the late Jesse Meredith James and Iva Lucille Binnicker Norvell.She was a registered nurse and had previously worked for Bruce Hospital, Saunders Memorial, Pee Dee Special Needs, Wilson Clinic and McLeod Regional Medical Center.Mrs. Anderson was an active member of Florence Baptist Temple and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.She served as the pianist for her Sunday school class and Reformer’s Unanimous program and previous member of the choir and the Florence Baptist Temple Orchestra, playing the kettle drum, bells, and xylophone. “Snookie” was well known by her friends and family for her great sense of humor, entertaining others around her wherever she went by telling jokes and stories and playing the piano. Mrs. Anderson lived her life to the fullest extent, enriching others along the way. She was a living testimony of her faith in Jesus Christ and service to her church and others. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard “Bunky” Edwin Anderson; her sister, Evelyn Lucille Bridgers, her brothers, Jesse James, Nathan James, Dan Warren James and Hugh Marion James and an infant brother, Harold Lyman James, and sister-in-law, Ethel Street James. Surviving are her son, George Stephen Anderson of Florence; her daughter, Elizabeth Dale “Daleen” Anderson Penoyer and husband Robert Penoyer of Orlando, FL; and her grandchild, Marshall Reid Anderson. Also surviving Mrs. Anderson are a number of nieces and nephews, including Hugh and Davie Bridgers, Leona “Tootsie” Moran, and Rose Mixon, all of Florence, Sarah Hatchell, of Greenville, SC and Carmen Bowry, of Richmond Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Florence Baptist Temple.Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
