SARAH "BUNNY" ELLA GRANTHAM HEWITT FLORENCE, S.C. SARAH "BUNNY" ELLA GRANTHAM HEWITT, 80, of Florence, was welcomed into God's arms onOctober 31, 2012 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.She was born on March 4, 1932 in Florence, SC. Bunny was predeceased by her mother, Ethel Polson Grantham, and her husband, Charles Benjamin Hewitt, and her son, Brian Edward Hewitt. Widowed at 36 with three children and being a stay-at-home mom, Bunny enrolled in a business course and retired from the Darlington DHEC Office. Our mother was highly intelligent and an exceptional storyteller with a great sense of humor.Holidays brought out her artistic side.Sunday dinners were a family ritual.Many hungry souls were fed at Mama's table. Bunny was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader.She also served as Secretary of the PTO at St. Anthony Catholic School and was a member of St. Anthony Church for over seventy years.As a young teen, she attended many summer sessions at Camp St. Mary's in the Low Country. She is survived by her son, David Charles Hewitt (Margaret) of Florence, SC; her daughter, Laura Hewitt LaPierre (Luke) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 4 grandchildren, Charlie Hewitt (Katie) of Carolina Forest, SC, Drayton Hewitt of Florence, Joseph Hewitt of Florence, SC and Lucia LaPierre of Richmond, VA; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Tripp Hewitt, both of Carolina Forest, SC; sister-in-law, Ann Perrin Hewitt (Dr. Wayne M.) Brown of Overland Park, Kansas; aunt, Helen Polson Gearhart of Dallas, TX and uncle, Gerald (Pat) Polson, Raleigh, NC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church.Committal will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Friday at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel with visitation immediately following and at other times at the residence.
