Sankey Moody

Sankey Moody Florence, SC Sankey Moody, Jr., 90, joined his bride in heaven on the eve of their 68th wedding anniversary on Friday, October 17, 2014. Mr. Moody was born in Mullins, SC a son of the late Sankey Moody, Sr. and Mary Leona Atkinson Moody. He proudly served his country in the US Navy Air Corps during WWII and retired from Bell South as an engineer after 38 years of service. He was very active in the Lions Club was Lion of the Year.For over 55 years he was actively involved in leadership roles at Immanuel Baptist Church including Trustee.He was Deacon Emeritus there and Moody Fellowship Hall was named to honor him for his perseverance, dedication and hard work in his church. Sankey would swell with pride when asked about his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He was the consummate father and husband – always there for his wife and family.He was never one to compromise his beliefs and stood for what was right. One of the last few of the Greatest Generation, he is survived by his daughter, Mary Alice (Monte) Veal of Wolf Laurel, NC; son, Alan (Janeen) Moody of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Chris and Dylan Moody and Jay and Reid Wilson; great-grandchildren, Olivia, William, Elizabeth and Andrew Moody. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 306 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC29501. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 20, 2014 at Immanuel Baptist Church.Entombment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with military honors.
