Sammie Ray Godwin

Sammie Ray Godwin, 68, of Villa Rica, GA, formerly of Florence, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. Mr. Godwin was born in Florence, SC, a son of the late Sam Royal Godwin and Uletha Poston Godwin.He retired as a systems engineer after thirty-three years with AT&T and then worked with British Telecom for a number of years. He was a private pilot and a member of AOPA. Mr. Godwin was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a Staff Sergeant and Drill Instructor with sixteen years of service. Surviving are his wife of forty-eight years, Marilyn Matthews Godwin; children, Amy Godwin (Gary) Tinsley of Conyers, GA, Amelia Godwin (Kyle) Kelly of Villa Rica, GA and Mark Godwin (Chad Bulloch) of Minneapolis, MN;grandchildren, Hanna Tinsley, Olivia Tinsley, Kendall Kelly and Karson Kelly; sister, Kay Godwin (Bill) Lewis of Florence and his mother-in-law, Mary K. Stumpf of Florence. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.
