Sally Gertrude Owens Sturgeon

SALLY GERTRUDE OWENS STURGEON FLORENCE, S.C. SALLY GERTRUDE OWENS STURGEON, 78, of Florence, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at her daughter's residence after an illness. Mrs. Sturgeon was born in Blenheim, a daughter of the late McIver and Mary Etha Hood Owens. She had retired from Pee Dee Food Service. Mrs. Sturgeon was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who loved everyone she came in contact with. Surviving are her children; Gail (Jesse) Cartrette of Florence, Stewart "Buzzy" Sturgeon of Florence, Billy Sturgeon of Charleston, Jean Cook of Dillon, Charlie Sturgeon, Scott Sturgeon and Joey Sturgeon, all of Florence; sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, a special friend, Vendell Carraway, a special nephew, D.R. Dennis, and a number of other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Miles Sturgeon and two sisters, Addie "Sissy" Whittington and Wyonia Swann. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, January 7, 2013 in the Church of God of Prophecy. Interment will follow in Matthews Cemetery in Coward, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home to assist the family. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Sunday, at the residence of Jason & Jesse Cartrette, 4326 S. Irby Street, Florence, SC and from 2-3 PM on Monday at the Church of God of Prophecy.
