Russell Mark Howell, 72, passed away on July 29, 2026, in Florence, South Carolina, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on February 25, 1954, in Greene, New York, Russell was a man of few words whose actions spoke volumes. He possessed a quiet strength that inspired those around him and approached life with determination, ingenuity, and an unwavering work ethic. Whether faced with a challenge or lending a helping hand, Russell believed in solving problems rather than talking about them. His character was defined by what he did, and those who knew him respected him for it.
Russell proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Boiler Technician (BT). His time in the Navy reflected the qualities that would define him throughout his life, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to duty. He carried those values with him long after his military service ended, continuing to live with integrity and a deep sense of responsibility.
Russell had a passion for restoring classic automobiles and fabricating custom parts and projects. He found satisfaction in bringing old machines back to life, seeing potential where others saw worn-out metal. His craftsmanship, creativity, and ability to build or repair just about anything reflected both his ingenuity and his patient, hands-on approach to life.
Above all else, Russell was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He found his greatest purpose in providing for those he loved and being a steady, dependable presence they could always count on. Though he was not a man of many words, his love was evident in everything he did. He taught by example, demonstrating the importance of hard work, perseverance, humility, and doing what was right.
Russell is survived by his loving wife, Mary Howell; his children, Suay Al-Aziz, Bethany Edwards, Cory Edwards, Mark Howell, and Timothy Howell; along with extended family and many dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A man of few words, Russell never needed many to leave a lasting impression. His strength was found in his character, his love was shown through his actions, and the example he set will continue to live on through the family he loved so deeply. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
