Ross Lanier Peebles

Ross Lanier Peebles of Florence, South Carolina, passed into eternal peace on August 10, 2026, following several years of health challenges. He was born on June 9, 1943, in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of John Kirkpatrick Peebles and Martha Green Peebles. He attended Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville and earned a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1965.

Ross worked in the lumber and building industry for several years, first with Weyerhaeuser Company in Tacoma, Washington, and then alongside his father at Kirkpatrick Lumber Company in Nashville. In 1986, he made a career change to pursue a long-held interest in the restaurant business, joining the newly formed Papa John’s Pizza and ultimately becoming Northeast Region Vice President. He retired in 2007 and moved to Charleston, South Carolina. In 2020, he moved to Florence to be closer to family. He served as an elder at Second Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Maryland, and as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Nashville.

Ross loved snow skiing, and his enthusiasm for the sport was contagious. His children and grandchildren came to love it as well. He was a devoted fan of his Vanderbilt Commodores and the Baltimore Ravens. After retiring, photography became a particular passion. He loved capturing compelling images and enjoyed the entire process of creating them.

He is survived by Ann Evans Peebles, his wife of 62 years; three children, Amy Peebles Martin (Todd) of Phoenix, Arizona, William Kirkpatrick Peebles (Elizabeth) of Evergreen, Colorado, and Christian Greene Peebles (Jennifer) of Florence; six granddaughters, McKenzie Alyse Martin, Victoria Martin McDonald (Daniel), Addyson Ann Martin, Emily Claire Peebles, Margaret Ann Peebles, and Caroline Christian Peebles; and his sister, Irene Peebles Lowe (Alvin) of Nashville.

Visitation will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 16th, at 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m. directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the church’s columbarium.
