Rosalyn Celeste Varn Edwards, 94, of Washington, North Carolina, died May 25, 2025. There will be a memorial service in the Mary Alice Ingram Chapel at The Manor in Florence, SC, where she received wonderful care for the past three years.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Yemassee, SC, the daughter of Harry W. Varn and Rosalie Mixon Varn. She was the sister of the late Harry W. Varn, Jr. Her husband, Billy S. Edwards preceded her in death on November 13, 2011.
Rosalyn graduated from Walterboro High School in 1947 and Meredith College in 1951, and completed her master’s degree at East Carolina Teachers College (ECU) in Greenville, NC.
She had a wonderful career teaching school, retiring after 30 years from the Nash Count School System. Following retirement, she volunteered for many years at Nash Day Hospital offering assistance and comfort to many patients.
In 1996, Rosalyn and Billy returned to Washington from Rocky Mount, enjoying life on the Pamlico River. She continued her volunteer work at the NC Estuarium and Meals on Wheels for many years. Rosalyn was a devoted member of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild.
Rosalyn is survived by her son, Bill and wife, Jennifer Edwards of Florence, SC, two grandchildren, Burke (Caroline) of Greensboro, NC and Caroline of Walnut Cove, NC, and three great grandchildren, Henry (4), Peter (1) and Sloane (2 mo.) of well as a great niece Arwyn Welch of Clinton, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Church, 101 North Bonner St., Washington, NC 27889.
