Roger Kent Hux, 78, of Florence, SC, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
He was born April 17, 1947, in Mesa, Arizona, the son of the late Edwin Hugh Hux and Myrtie Gertrude Youmans Hux. The family moved to Warner Robbins, Georgia, when he entered second grade. He attended Georgia Southern College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Education. Mr. Hux then went to the University of Georgia for a Masters in History and later to Emory University for a Masters in Librarianship. He taught Social Studies in Georgia before going to Emory for his library degree. For four decades he was on the faculty of Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, working as an Assistant Reference Librarian. He was known for his helpfulness to students as well as his scholarship in southern history and the history of librarianship.
He was a member at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. Mr. Hux loved playing tennis, Braves baseball, and bird watching.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepsisters, Jo Ann Lawson (Jim) and Jean Williams (Ben). Surviving are his wife, Julia Elizabeth Krebs, and stepbrothers, Jack Parham (Lana) and Jiles Parham (Lynne).
Services will be held at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
