Roger Lee Gunderson

December 29, 1925 — April 18, 2016

Roger Lee Gunderson, 90, of Florence, SC, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016, after a long illness. Mr. Gunderson was born in Scipio, NY.He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. He retired from General Electric after 38 years and was a member of Florence Golden K Kiwanis Club and VFW Post 3181.Mr. Gunderson served as President of Central Virginia Chapter of American Institute of Industrial Engineers, Past Commander of the Fred H. Sexton Post #1 of the American Legion and was Adjutant for several years.He also served as Chairman of the Florence Area Literacy Council. Mr. Gunderson is survived by his daughter, Patricia (James) Lambert of Altavista, VA; grandson, Stephen J. Lambert of Lynchburg, VA; sister, Barbara Mapstone of Ithaca, NY; brother, Thomas Gunderson of Aurora, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Gunderson was preceded in death by his parents, John Gunderson and Pearl Myers Gunderson; his wife, Pauline Muriel Young Gunderson; his brother, Howard Gunderson and his sister, Thelma Lepak. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Family will receive friends 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
