Rodanthe Keretses Hondros, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, in her home surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her two brothers. Mrs. Hondros was born in Fidakia, Karpenitiou, Evritanias, Greece. At the age of 20 years old, she immigrated to the United States with her parents, the late Gus Keretses and Katherine Hamberis Keretses. In 1950, she would marry the late Gus Steve Hondros in Florence, SC, and raise three beautiful children. Mrs. Hondros' family was one of the founding families of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church here in Florence where she taught Sunday school for many years. She served several terms as board member of the Ladies' Philoptochos, as well as the Daughters of Evritania. Surviving Mrs. Hondros are her two brothers, George (Marie) Keretses and Steve (Olga) Keretses; her children: Helen (Steve) Doulaveris, Steve Hondros, Rena (Matt) Chizmar; five grandchildren: Renee (Costa) Perivolaris, William (Tiffany) Doulaveris, Rodanthe (Spero) Koufaliotis, Andrew (Cameron) Gabriel, and Constance Gabriel; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation/Trisagion will be at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening, June, 11, 2014, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 3:00 pm at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
