Robert Barge Brown Jr., 88, of Timmonsville, SC, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, surrounded by his family and a close family friend.
Bobby, as he preferred to be called, was born in Bessimer, Alabama. He was the son of the late Curtis Legrande Saverance and Mildred Francis Saverance. He was also predeceased by the mother of his children, Mary Eunice Kennedy Brown Rogers, and his second wife Lillian Jackson Brown. Bobby moved to Florence, SC at the age of 2 and attended Florence schools and graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1955. After graduation, he attended and graduated from Carolina Business College. He was a member of the National Guard. He owned a Gulf gas station. At the age of 21, he began his career at the U.S. Postal Service in Florence. He began as a carrier, promoted to Safety Supervisor. He earned the nickname, "Carolina Connection” since he trained several postal employees across the U.S. He reached the pinnacle of his career serving as the Postmaster in Marion, SC after which he retired. He had several hobbies including photography, bird watching, reading, fishing, boating, drawing and design, and mechanic work. He enjoyed music, dancing, driving his John Deer tractor and overall living life. He was adventurous and enjoyed traveling and learning new things. He was one that could talk about any subject. He was a student of life and learning. He treasured spending time with his family and was an active member of Elim Baptist Church. He was known for his quick wit and giving heart.
He is survived by his daughters, Pamela (David C.) Murray , Robin Brown, Joye Brown and Jean (Gary) Flohr and his son Robert Legrande Brown; six grandchildren, Christopher D. (Megan) Murray, Tallon L. (Ashley) Brown, Ashton (Madison) Gerald, Gage Flohr, Sarah Gerald and Abigail Flohr; two great-grandchildren, Kaison Murray and Holden Murray; niece and nephews, Ellen Hiott, Curtis (Angela) Langston and Michael (Stacy) Kennedy.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, from 11:00-12:00 PM at Stoudenmire Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the emergency department and the TSCU staff members at McLeod Regional Medical Center that provided exceptional care in his last days. Your compassion and care will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
