ROBERT “BOB” HAMILTON McLAUGHLIN, SR. A funeral service will be held for Robert “Bob” Hamilton McLaughlin Sr. at 1pm on Saturday, January 7th, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Originally from Effingham, Bob was the eldest of three brothers; Robert, Albert and William McLaughlin. He graduated from The Citadel in 1960 with a commission in the US Army. Bob was a Woodrow Wilson Scholar and served 28 years as an Army Intelligence officer. He spent two tours in Vietnam and was posted in numerous assignments across the United States and Germany. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, he earned a Masters of Education and enjoyed teaching History and Government. An avid history enthusiast, Bob loved traveling throughout both his military career and his retirement. He enjoyed the opportunity to see so much of the world during his life and sharing the experience with his family. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary D. McLaughlin; son, Robert “Mac” H. McLaughlin, Jr. and his daughter-in-law, Julia McLaughlin. Please send messages to the family at the obit section of www.stoudenmiredowling.com.
