Robert Charles (Bob) Anderson

Robert (Bob) Charles Anderson, 97, of Columbia, formerly of Florence, passed away in his sleep on Friday, December 7, 2018.He was born in Washburn, Wisconsin on November 15, 1921 to Isaac Alexander and Florence Branstrom Anderson. From his childhood days sneaking out on the trolley with his sister Grace exploring downtown Milwaukee to his later years keeping up with the newest technology well into his 90s, Bob’s sharp mind and intellectual curiosity never faded.An unpretentious man who cared for friends and strangers alike and spoke little about himself, Bob spent his retirement bringing comfort to others as a volunteer at McLeod Hospital and with Meals on Wheels.He attended the University of Chicago on the GI Bill and spent his career as an engineer at DuPont, where he met his late wife, Elsy. Bob is survived by his son Robert F. Anderson of Columbia; son-in-law Craig Jackson (Norma) of Jefferson, NC; grandchildren Robert J. Anderson (Carly) of Los Angeles, CA; Drew Jackson of Jefferson, NC; Laura Anderson (Julien) of Ljubljana, Slovenia; Dr. Meg Kihlstrom (Kelsey) of Raleigh, NC; Kathryn Westurn (Tyler) of Goose Creek, SC; and six great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his wife of 74 years, Elsy West Anderson; daughter Sandra A. Jackson; daughter-in-law Elizabeth C. Anderson; and sisters Florence Berg, Lois Myers, and Grace Pennington. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15 at Highland Park United Methodist Church.Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
