DR. RICHARD “DOC” SOJOURNER FLORENCE, SC Dr. Richard “Doc” Sojourner, 81, of Florence, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015 in Carolinas Hospital after an illness. Dr. Sojourner was born in Florence, SC a son of the late John Reddick Sojourner and Amelia McClenaghan Sojourner.He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and a veteran of the US Navy.He was an avid gun collector, was owner of Citizens Firearms of Florence and was a well respected oral surgeon and anesthesiologist in South Carolina. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Joyce Altman Sojourner of Florence; son, Richard (Tanya) Sojourner of Florence; daughters, Kristen (Mark Thompson) Sojourner of Aiken, SC, Shannon (Scott) Lowe of Greenville, SC, Lauri (Travis Zack) Sojourner of Aiken, SC and Desiree (Aaron) Sables of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin, Meri, Sam, Jacob, Ansley, Riley, Alexis, Sarah, Gracie, Daniel, Jack, Peyton and Logan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Area Humane Society, P. O. Box 4808, Florence, SC29502 or to your local chapter. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. A private burial will take place at a later date.
