On Friday, July 25, 2025, Reverend Doyle Henderson Jones, 92, of Florence, SC, went to be with is Heavenly Father, whom he loved and served faithfully for over fifty years.
Born in Newberry, Mr. Jones was a son of the late Dwight Wesley and Annie Laura Ruff Jones. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Frances Spell, originally of Denmark, SC; three sons, Timothy Doyle (Laura) Jones of Ferguson, NC; Brian Wesley (Julie) Jones of Summerton; Kenneth Gordon (Melissa) Jones of Florence; and a granddaughter, Neven Bryn Jones of Ferguson, NC. He is also survived by two sisters, Glenda Wood of Columbia; Muriel “Mickey” Ray of Ooltewah, TN; and a brother, Keith (Ann) Jones of Florence, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of Newberry High School, North Greenville Junior College, where he received an Associate of Arts degree; Newberry College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in education; and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity.
Throughout his ministry, Mr. Jones served as pastor of First Baptist Church and Walnut Grove Baptist Church, both in Bowman, SC; Northgate Baptist Church in Florence; Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Dillon; and Oakdale Baptist Church in Florence. In addition, he served on the Board of Trustees of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, the Advisory Council of Charleston Southern University, and was clerk for the Florence Baptist Association. After his retirement, Mr. Jones served as interim pastor at various churches in Florence.
Mr. Jones was known for his humility and his genuine interest in people, community activities, as well as fishing, reading, and sports. His greatest love was the church and his family.
The family will receive friends and family from 2:00 - 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Mount Hope Mausoleum with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM.
