Raymond Wallace Coleman, 96, died March 16, 2018, at his residence in Florence, SC. A memorial service was held on March 17, 2018, at Pamplico United Methodist Church, Pamplico, SC, with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home directing. In honor of Ray Coleman’s love of good food, family and friends gathered at Cain’s BBQ after the service. Born in Pamplico, SC, on January 27, 1922, Mr. Coleman was a son of the late Arthur Benjamin and Alva Vaughn Coleman. Mr. Coleman was a lifelong member of Pamplico United Methodist and was a charter member of the Pamplico Lions Club. He served as Postmaster in Pamplico for 40 years, retiring in January of 1987. Mr. Coleman attended schools in Pamplico and was a 1943 Clemson graduate. During World War II, he was a Captain in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, in Europe. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mr. Coleman was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Ertelle Williams Coleman, in June of 2013. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Benjamin Coleman, Jr, and a son, Raymond Wallace Coleman, Jr. Surviving are a daughter, Lynn C Brown and husband, Mike, Fort Mill, SC; a son, Arthur L Coleman and husband, Christopher Lyon, Washington, DC; three grandchildren, Ryan P Peake and husband, Joe Drake, Sioux Falls, SD; Katherine Coleman-Lyon and Benjamin Coleman-Lyon, Washington, DC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
