Ralph Edgar White, 76, of Florence, passed away peacefully at McLeod Hospice House on Monday, April 27, 2017. Ralph was born in Van, West Virginia, on November 8, 1940. He was the son of the late Emmitt and Fay Edith White. Ralph was a graduate of Van High School, and graduated from Marshall University where he was the recipient of a four year football scholarship. In 1964, Ralph and Nancy Surrett were married in Sykesville, Maryland. This wonderful union lasted for 52 years and eight months. They were blessed with two sons, Chad and Russell. Russell passed away in 1994. Ralph’s first career was in teaching at Van High School, where he coached football, wrestling, and baseball. He changed his career path in 1969 to textiles, working for Burlington Industries for 28 years. This led Ralph and his family to many locations in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.Drakes Branch, Clarksville, and South Boston, Virginia; Oxford, Raeford, and Pinehurst, North Carolina; and Bishopville, South Carolina, were places they called home. He retired in 1997 in Pinehurst, North Carolina where he spent many hours on the awesome, renowned Pinehurst golf courses. Ralph is survived by his wife, Nancy, his son, Dr. Chad (Stacy) White, grandsons, Eli and Gabe, granddaughter, Kaylie Kilpatrick, and many special nieces and nephews. Ralph was the last of his six siblings to walk the Streets of Gold. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
