Priscilla Shorter Bowers

Priscilla Shorter Bowers Pawleys Island, SC Priscilla Shorter Bowers, 71, of Pawleys Island, SC passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Tidelands Community Hospice after an illness. Mrs. Bowers was born in Florence County, SC, a daughter of the late Raleigh Wilburn "R.W." and Bertha McElveen Shorter. She served as secretary for the Hartsville District Office of the United Methodist Church and later worked in real estate. Early in her career, she had worked for Sonoco Products Company. Mrs. Bowers graduated from McClenaghan High School and went on to attend High Point University. She volunteered with the American Red Cross in Florence; she was the first Brownie leader at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Hartsville, and was involved with Baskerville Ministries in Pawleys Island. She was the secretary of United Methodist Women; taught Bible school, and Sunday school. Her hobbies included walking the beach,riding the pontoon boat, playing bridge, and knitting. Mrs. Bowers is preceded in death by her parents, and by a sister, Judith Dianne Shorter. Mrs. Bowers is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roy L. Bowers of the home; daughters, Kathryn B. (Chris) Wells, of Flower Mound, TX, and Celeste B. (Joel) Harris, of Hartsville; 3 beloved grandchildren, Katy Wells, Emily Anne Harris, and Will Harris; and her devoted dog named "Who You". Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm, Saturday, November 26, 2011 in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-3:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Waccamaw UMC in Pawleys Island, 180 St. Paul Place, Pawleys Island, SC 29585; or to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N.
