Phyllis Psirakos Economy, 88, of Florence, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Mrs. Economy was born in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late George Psirakos and Panagiota Panteleakis Psirakos. She moved to Florence when she was 6 years old, and was a 1945 graduate of Florence High School. She was also a graduate of Winthrop, with a major in Music. She was a member of the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, where she was the organist for forty-eight years. Mrs. Economy was very devoted to her church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Many remember her for her kind and pleasant nature. She loved to bake, and her pastries and cakes were always a delight. She is survived by her son, Dr. George Economy (Athena) and grandchildren, Phyllis Anderson (John) and Paul Economy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Paul John Economy, and her son, John Paul (“Johnny”) Economy . A Trisagion Service and visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, with the funeral following at 12:00.
