Loyal to the very core, brilliant in thought, and tender in heart, Phillip “Reid” Dewitt lived a life of passion and purpose. On August 12, 2025, surrounded by love, he embarked on his final journey — leaving behind a legacy of devotion, wisdom, and kindness that will echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was born on February 14, 1979, in Florence SC to Mrs. Cindy Wall Beard and the late Phil Dewitt.
Reid grew up in Scranton, SC and started learning and appreciating hard work early, helping his beloved Pappy on the farm. He went on to become an all-star football player at Carolina Academy in high school. He attended Florence Darlington technical college to become a radiology technologist. Little did he know just how big that decision would become and how many lives he would touch. He started his career at Carolina’s hospital system in 2000 (now known as MUSC Florence). He gave his best and his all to his patients for 25 years. He had a passion for taking care of his patients and making them feel safe and comfortable. He treated them each with the most respect and kindness. During this time, he also took pride in teaching and training student radiology technologists. He will forever be remembered for his tireless work ethic, commitment to medicine and his wonderful wittiness.
Reid had a way of making you laugh at the most mundane things. His humor was unmatched. Please know if you come to his service wearing any type of jogger pants-He will be laughing at you as he looks on.
The only thing that Reid loved more in this world than his career in medicine was his daughter Elena. She was his world, his beacon of light, the thing he was most proud of.
He was preceded in death by his father, Phil Dewitt; his uncle Myron Dewitt; grandparents CB DeWitt and Doris DeWitt.
He is survived in death by his amazing daughter Elena (9); his loving mother, Cindy Wall Beard (Avery); his sister, Shawn Hendrix (Rudy); his nephew, Connor, his niece Emma Kate; his Person and Partner, Kate Bass, and her son Stokes (7); His grandparents William and Barbara Wall; his Aunt Kay (Ernie), Aunt Sandra (Murat), and cousins Emre and Cem; His Aunt Marsha and cousin AJ Kemp; Aunt Cindy (Tommy) and cousins Beal and Tracy; his most cherished and loyal Goldendoodle, Hank (11) and numerous co-workers that he loved so dearly as family.
