Philip B. Shaw

FLORENCE – Philip B. Shaw, Sr., 80, of Florence passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2015, in the care and comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Gorham, Maine to the late Fred Alden Shaw and Ella Phinney Shaw. He lived in Wilson, North Carolina for 17 years where he established Shaw Motor Sales.In 1984 he opened a second Shaw Motor Sales in Florence, South Carolina where he and his family eventually all relocated.After serving the community by providing affordable automobiles and financing for the community he and his wife retired in 2000.After retiring he became an integral part of the Non-Profit Organization the Owl’s Club International, Inc. d/b/a The Owl’s Nest Recovery Community.His was a great mentor and friend to all and his presence will be greatly missed.Philip loved helping the sick and suffering alcoholics and addicts that he came into contact with at the Owl’s Nest. He served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Phil leaves his beloved wife of 61 years Helene Kutcher Shaw, of Florence; loving children Philip B Shaw, Jr. of Florence S.C., Fred A. Shaw of Lynchburg, S.C, Kimberly S. Shaw of Florence, S.C., and Stephen W. Shaw of Florence, S.C.; a caring sister Judy Lloyd of Portland, Maine and a proud grandfather of 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren He was predeceased by his brother, Fred Alden Shaw Jr. Memorial services for Philip will be held at Stoudenmire Dowling Funeral Home in Florence, South Carolina on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will immediately follow at the Owl’s Nest located at 2528 W Palmetto Street, Florence SC.
