Peggy Carolyn Smith Wilfong Bennettsville, SC Mrs. Peggy Carolyn Smith Wilfong, 81, widow of Dr. W.D. Wilfong, Jr., passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the McLeod Hospice House. Peggy was born September 27, 1932 in Danville, Va., a daughter of the late Thomas L. and Annie Carl Moore Smith.She was a former nurse, having graduated from Danville Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a homemaker and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Hamlet, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Ira, Jeff and John Smith and by a sister, Virginia Patty. She is survived by her son, Dr. Charles A. (Melinda) Wilfong of Florence; sister, Mary S. Tate and a special niece, Judy Emerson, both of Cincinnati, OH and several other nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers per Mrs. Peggy’s request, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 208 Charlotte Street, Hamlet, NC28345 and to the McLeod Hospice House, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC29502, www.mcleodfoundation.org. A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Hamlet, NC.Burial will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Florence National Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the First Baptist Church in Hamlet, NC and other times at her residence in Bennettsville. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee and the McLeod Hospice House for their gentle and loving care.
