Peggy Jo Baker Carroway, of Florence, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019. Mrs. Carroway was born in Conway, SC a daughter of the late Joseph Walter Baker and Mettie Allen Baker.She was a life-long resident of Florence, after moving here with her parents and brother after high school.She enjoyed a career in banking, in which she was the first woman to serve as a bank officer in Florence, and a second career in interior design, which was a passion of hers. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Carrie Odom of Florence, Jack Odom of Los Angeles, CA, and Catherine Odom of West Chester, PA, who were a source of great joy and pride in her life.She was devoted to her kind and loving husband Gerald Dean Carroway, with whom she shared many loves, including their church, travel, and dancing. Mrs. Carroway was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Walter Baker, Sr. and Mettie Allen Baker, and by her daughter-in-law, Betsy Odom. Surviving are her husband, Gerald Dean Carroway of Florence; sons, John Edward Odom, Jr. (Christine) of West Chester, PA, and Ronald Bryan Odom (Debbie) of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren, and her brother, Joseph Walter Baker, Jr. of Florence. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 524 S. Ebenezer Road, Florence, SC29501. The family will receive friends at her residence from 4 – 7 pm Monday, April 22, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Ebenezer Baptist Church.A private burial will take place at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
