Patricia Miller Rhodes, 83, of Columbia, SC passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020. Mrs. Rhodes was born on December 27, 1936 in St. Albans, WV a daughter of the late Samuel T. Miller and Elizabeth Greer Miller.A self-proclaimed “army brat”, moving every few years and living overseas in Okinawa, she was happy to be a stay-at-home mom, raising eight children.She was a dedicated wife and mother, and excelled in her role as a homemaker.She was creative and very talented with a needle, sewing numerous outfits for her children and grandchildren, sewing for the home, smocking dresses, quilting, crocheting and other needlework.She loved antique furniture and delighted in refinishing and restoring pieces she picked up in second hand stores.She enjoyed reading, listening to a wide variety of music, Neil Diamond being her favorite, and was a whiz at Jeopardy.She will always be fondly remembered for her wonderful homemade pizza and many other favorite dishes she lovingly prepared.She was a member of the Quinby Garden Club, Quinby Coffee Group, former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Florence and current member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Columbia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of fifty years, Thomas Leo Rhodes; siblings, Howard Miller, Dwight Miller, and Pamela Miller McReynolds. Surviving are her children, Sheila Pegram, Stephen (Betty) Rhodes, Diane (Lee) Roof, Susan (Allen) Steagall, Lisa (Tom) Privette, Michael Rhodes, Laura (Steve) Garrett, and Melissa Ward.Grandma Patty leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to the school, 2536 Hoffmeyer Road, Florence, SC29501. For all those that wish to attend, a graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.The family will greet friends immediately following the service. For those who wish to pay their respects to Mrs. Rhodes, may do so on Monday and Tuesday, December 21st and the 22nd, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the funeral home.The family will not be present during this time. The family wishes to recognize the dedication and loving care provided by special caregiver Christine Lopes with Heart of Hospice.
