Norma Powell Baxley

NORMA POWELL BAXLEY FLORENCE, SC NORMA POWELL BAXLEY, 83, of Florence, SC died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in a Florence health care facility after an illness. Mrs. Baxley was born in Florence Co., SC a daughter of the late Marvin Bishop and Ervin Altman Powell.She grew up in the Vox Community of Prospect, SC.She retired after 31 years as a secretary for First Free Will Baptist Church of Florence and worked as a seamstress from home.She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church for over 50 years where she was a member of the Mirial Ganier Sunday School Class.She was also a member of the Auxiliary Club of the American Legion in Effingham. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allen Ward "Al" Baxley, brother, Lincoln Powell and sister, Mildred Altman. Surviving are her children, Ranae M. (Peggy) Baxley of Lexington and Jan Baxley of Florence; grandchildren, Michael Dwayne (Victoria) Baxley of West Columbia, Stephen (Lisa) Baxley and Brian (Julie) Baxley, both of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Brian Baxley, Jr., Anna Baxley, Bryson Baxley, J.C. Baxley, Katie Baxley, Ben Baxley; two foster grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church Expansion Program, 2624 West Palmetto Street, Florence, SC29501. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the First Free Will Baptist Church.Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
