Nathan Marsden Fowler

d. May 9, 2018

Nathan Marsden Fowler Jr. February 14, 1957 - May 9, 2018 Nathan Marsden Fowler Jr., of Greenville, SC, passed away unexpectedly on May 9, while working in South Korea. He was 61. Nathan, also known as Mardy to family and friends, was born in Florence, the first child of Margaret and Nathan Fowler. He graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1975, and served in the Navy from 1976 to 1978. After leaving the Navy, he worked with his father, and had two children, Christopher Graham and Margaret Ann, with his former wife Nancy. At the time of his death, Nathan was a Regional Service Manager for DeNora Water Technologies in Houston. He worked all over the globe—from Asia to the Middle East to Mexico, Canada and Africa—helping to repair and maintain water treatment systems on oil rigs and large ocean-going vessels. It was hard work, but he loved it, especially for the freedom his job gave him to explore new places, cultures and food. While he loved traveling to new and unusual locations for work, Nathan also explored much of the United States, riding back roads through Texas and the West on his beloved motorcycle. He truly enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was camping, fishing, kayaking or hiking, and it was rare that he didn’t have a camera with him to capture the beauty of his world. When not on the road, you could find Nathan at his cabin in the woods outside of Greenville, where he embraced the solitude, complemented by his extensive collection of books and music. Nathan is survived by his two children, Christopher Graham and Margaret Ann, and their mother, Nancy, as well as daughter-in-law Caroline Yarborough Fowler, mother Margaret Fowler, sister Anne Black, her husband Carl Black, brother-in-law Rick LePage and their families. A celebration of Nathan’s life will take place on Saturday, June 2, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Floyd Farm, 729 River Road, in Pamplico. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in his name to his favorite radio station, WNCW (wncw.org), or the National Association of State Parks (www.stateparks.org). Please sign the tribute wall for the family at www.stoudenmiredowling.com.
