Florence, South Carolina – Naneth Charlene (Van Ryan) Hart, age 83, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at McLeod Hospice.
A Life Remembered
She was born on January 17, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois to George Peter Van Ryan and Betty E. Bernstein DiGiorgio.
Nan was a private pilot and one of the first women to pilot commercial aircraft in the 1960’s. She then earned a degree in accounting and worked as a professional bookkeeper for several years for multiple businesses.
Passions and Joys
Nan had a passion for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a classically trained pianist and gifted guitar player she loved playing music in church worship services and small groups. She was a member of Calvary Chapel of Sprague River, Oregon and the Agape Chapel of Orange County, California. She loved flying, especially being a pilot. Nan read profusely and enjoyed reading physics, science fiction, fantasy, and theology. She loved math puzzles, especially Kakuro, and card games. She will be remembered by friends and family for her wonderful sense of humor, strong wit, and passion for helping others.
Family
Naneth is survived by her three children Cori Colburn, Raymond Hart, Vincent Hart (Wendy); and her Grandchildren Mehgan Elizabeth Hart-Belk (Matthew); Emily Naneth Hart-Durham (Peter); and Amy Nichole Hart; three Great-Grandchildren: Gryffin David Durham, Orion Benjamin-Terril Durham, and Atlas Vincent Durham.
Naneth was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George J. Van Ryan.
Services
A funeral service will not be held. The family will hold a private Celebration of Life with her family in Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Tunnels to Towers in Nan’s memory.
