Myrtle Ghoens McLeod, 102, of Florence, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014. Mrs. McLeod was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Silas Flemings Ghoens and Jaynee Grey Ghoens.She was one of eight children and graduated valedictorian from Elim School.She worked as manager of the boys department at Sears for forty years.She was an avid gardener and a member of the Swamp Fox Quilting Club.Mrs. McLeod was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Florence. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by seven siblings and her husband, Sheriff Edward A. McLeod, who died in 1974. Surviving are her son, James Edward (Glenda) McLeod of Florence; grandchildren, Libby McLeod (Bob) Davis of Lake Wateree, SC, Suzanne McLeod (Derrick) Mozingo of Myrtle Beach and Becky McLeod (Dean) Windham of Scranton; and three great-grandchildren, Amanda Davis (Thomas) Jeter of Charlotte, NC, James Dean Windham and Dawson McLeod Windham, both of Scranton. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
