Manning

Maynard “Boyd” Cook, Jr., of Manning (Wyboo), South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born and raised on the North Shore of Chicago, Boyd attended New Trier High School and later graduated from the University of Denver. He served his country with honor in the Vietnam War, a role he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.

Boyd built a long and meaningful career in business, holding positions at several major companies including Panasonic, Toko America, and Kraft Foods, where he retired. One of his most notable professional accomplishments was helping to provide specialized video equipment that contributed to the discovery of the Titanic, a project he remained especially proud of.

Outside of work, Boyd enjoyed the simple things: adoring his many tech gadgets, cars, trying his hand at embroidery, and keeping his mind sharp with puzzles. He was an extreme intellect and kept up to date on news. He loved cruising and spending time on the water, but it was in Manning, in his beloved Wyboo community, where he found a true sense of belonging.

In Wyboo, Boyd served on the Beautification Committee, a role he cherished. It gave him the chance to leave a lasting legacy, contributing to the beauty of a place that brought him peace and joy. His lifelong friendships meant the world to him, and he loved you all so much.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael Cook of Chicago and his partner Gina, and Daniel Cook of Virginia and his partner Jessica, his granddaughter, Emma Gnoffo-Cook, and his sisters, Stephani, Madelon, and Avis. He also leaves behind his cat, Pippa, who kept him company, and on his toes, for many years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Pippa, for Maynard Boyd Cook, Jr., to Second Chance Animal Shelter in Manning, SC. Pippa has returned to the shelter as the much-loved office cat and is available for adoption.
